Musical Director

LIz Childs

Liz Childs GRSM (Hons) LRAM is the Music Director of the BWAFE which she established around 2010 by just placing an advert in the Comet.  This gave birth to Hitchin Flutes, rehearsing in Hitchin on a rather infrequent basis.
The Ensemble soon became more formalised by request and demand and when Liz moved to Barton Le Clay became the BWAFE.
Liz is a Graduate of the Royal Academy of Music where she studied flute  primarily with Gareth Morris  but has also studied with many eminent teachers during her student years. She has performed around the world as a Soloist and Chamber Musician.  Liz has always had a strong passion for teaching and a belief that everyone should have  access and opportunity to engage in music and especially, that people should be able to perform regardless of what level they have attained.
Liz has really tried to develop and provide opportunities for the Ensemble including 3 European tours, numerous public concerts, private entertainments  as well as entering and winning Competitions and Festival Classes.  Sadly a planned trip to Slovenia is still on hold but will, when possible, provide the opportunity to meet up with Blaz & Anna Puchiar and give some concerts.
Currently Liz teaches at Beechwood Park School which is in Markyate near St Albans and St Frances College in Letchworth.  She is a busy Adjudicator for the British & International Federation of Festivals, a role that has allowed her to travel extensively both at home and abroad.
Liz is married, has 3 grown up children and two very special twin Grandchildren.
